On the weekends, I am a breakfast feaster. I have a reputation for having eyes much larger than my stomach, but that never stops me from ordering a platter larger than my head from whichever brunch spot my fiance and I land at.
So, imagine my delight when reading about Bang Bang Pie’s new expanded brunch menu. Instead of simply the best biscuits north of the Mason Dixon, they now prepare biscuit sandwiches with ham and poached egg, pimento cheese, pepper jelly, house-made sorghum sausage with poached egg and grape jelly; and bacon with pepper jelly and poached egg. And, just to please me, I’m convinced, they’ll serve grits on the side.
My main complaint about life in the Midwest is the distinct lack of grits, so thank you, Bang Bang. Thank you.
Now, on with the rest of this weekend’s offerings:
- Revel in the great outdoors while we still can by having a casual dinner the Daley Plaza Food Truck Rally, which began today at lunch but runs til 8 p.m. tonight. Eight trucks are on board, including dessert options. A dj will be spinning from 5 to 7:30 p.m., and Goose Island will be selling beer and wine.
- Andersonville businesses are lending their space to local artists for Andersonville Arts Weekend, happening tonight through Sunday. Here’s a handy map of where everything’s happening.
- RedEye recently profiled rising German girl band Boy (yes, we have that right), and they’re performing at Lincoln Hall Saturday. Listen to their bouncy single “Little Numbers,” then get $15 advance tickets here. There’s a cute sushi joint nearby at Lincoln and Altgeld that’s BYOB.
- If you and your partner are into Halloween kitsch, try Seadog’s new Halloween-themed boat tours. Hear a spooky twist on the classic architecture tour you’ve heard a million times. Tours depart at 6:15 and 8:15 p.m. every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in October. Book here.
