One of my favorite spots for dinner in Logan Square is Longman & Eagle, arguably the culinary anchor of the neighborhood. Since 2010 the dark, sexy restaurant and bar has been packed to the brim with patrons, with never a reservation taken. So, being the impatient Loganite with an appetite that I am, what I like to do is hit up the place at 9:30 p.m. or later and have dinner at the bar. No need for a reservation, but keep your party small (no more than three of you).
They’re still serving Christmas-inspired ales including Three Floyd’s Alpha Klaus, Bell’s Christmas Ale, and Great Lakes Christmas Ale, and about a half dozen new winter cocktails listed here. The Slagel Family Farms meatballs with creamy polenta and Welsh pretzel are my two strongly recommended starters or bar bites.
As far as dinner on New Year’s Eve goes, according to their website, they have one table left for the 10:30 p.m. (eight-course) dinner and a handful left for their 5:30 and 8:30 p.m. (five-course) seatings.
